Description

Phew! This sheet took me so long to finish, but they're finally here!

These little guys will be available through sales, auctions, and other events in the near future!

in-depth information

Brites originate from a dimension parallel to ours, on a small planet orbiting a dying White Dwarf, which occupies the last habitable zone of their solar system. The first Brites were biologically engineered from a subspecies of cavedwelling creatures, as a worker-class pet meant to serve the dominant race during emergency efforts to move their civilization off the ground and into interstellar convoys. Once their masters were gone, Brites were left to fend for themselves.

It wasn’t until many years later, when a curious Brite happened upon an old underground laboratory, that they first found their way to Earth. Deep within the facility they discovered ancient inter-dimensional warpgate technology; experiments their creators had long-since abandoned, along with old plans to use the neighbouring dimension as an escape route.

“Type” refers to the lightsource they take their appearance from.

“Breed” refers to the subclass their Type fits into.

“Fang Glow” is the recognized term for their glowing mouths and teeth, which also coincides with the color of their insides. Fang Glow can consist of one to four different colors, with certain subspecies capable of changing at will, according to their Type.

=

∆ All Brites start life as a “Blank”; a small, white, semi-conscious being, driven by the instinct to find their Type. Every Blank contains a dormant bundle of DNA, that is receptive to certain basic light properties. When activated, they enter a state of accelerated evolution, instantly developing their personality, colors, breed and Fang Glow in response to the wavelengths present during their transformation.
∆
Brites were engineered to be hardy to cope with the hostile environment of a dying planet. They are immune to heat, cold, poison and radiation, and do not need to breathe. Brites will only become sick in total darkness, which the glow of themselves and their friends usually keeps them safe from.
∆
Sick Brites will grow dim; the fastest way to heal them is to expose them to their Type, though any bright light will do. They can be healed even if their light is almost out, and are functionally immortal unless killed.
∆
Brites are highly social creatures, and show affection by nuzzling their fangs against each other. They love to cuddle up with other Brites, and often seek attention from friends of other species by climbing all over them.
∆ A Brite’s diet is infinitely variable, and completely dependent on their tastes. Some enjoy human food, while others will snack on substances that are inedible or even toxic to native earthlings. Diet is generally influenced by Type, and can be just about anything they can fit in their mouths.
∆ They can purr, whine, howl, sing and chatter, as well as mimic sounds they hear. Despite their size, Brites can be LOUD; individuals with Types that produce noise (such as thunder from lightning) are capable of mimicking their sound perfectly, and will do so at every opportunity. They sound a little like something between guinea pigs, cockatiels and gibbons

subspecies
common: hard light, soft light, dim light
uncommon: flashing light, changing light
rare: mysterious light
mythical: fictional light

∆ hard light (light that is painful or otherwise difficult to look at)
Hard Lights are characterized by their enormous fangs and wide mouths. Generally, their fangs glow too intensely to show much color, their bodies are bigger and bulkier, and their claws are sharper than most other Brites. They tend to bully their dimmer cousins, and usually prefer to bond only with other Hard Lights, though it is not unheard of for them to befriend the social Soft Lights and explosive Flashing Lights.

∆ soft light (‘average’ light)
Soft Lights are the most average breed of Brite, with average build, fangs, and claws. Their personalities, behaviours and fang glows are the most variable of any breed, with the greatest variety of Types. Soft Lights are recognized as the most sociable of all Brites, forming large inclusive family circles and happily making many friends with any other breeds.

∆ dim light (difficult to see or otherwise very gentle, faint light)
Dim Lights are the smallest of all Brites, identifiable by their tiny mouths and fangs, small statures and blunt little claws. They are quiet, easy to startle, shy and very gentle. They prefer to keep their distance from tough Hard Lights and rambunctious Flashing and Changing Lights; their fang glow is not visible in bright surroundings.

∆ flashing light (lights that blink, pop, explode, pulse or flash)
Flashing Lights have a reputation for being the most energetic breed of Brite. They delight in racing around and making a lot of noise, usually proving too unpredictable for other breeds of Brite. They are not too physically dissimilar from Soft Lights, with sharper claws and more fangs. They possess the exclusive ability to amp their fang’s luminosity up or down, in order to mimic the flashing patterns of their Type.

∆ changing light (light that does not stay one color)
Changing Lights are the only breed with the unique ability to completely change the hue of their fang glow. The colors are limited to their Type, though it isn’t uncommon for this to include a full spectrum. They are bouncy and carefree, gathering to play together frequently. While they aren’t as variable as the friendly Soft Lights, which makes them a little harder for all breeds to get along with, they are still extremely friendly.

∆ mysterious light (light that is rare, shortlived, or difficult to find or recreate)
???

∆ fictional light (lightsources that do not exist in reality)
???
